Lisa and Rex Says: As there will always be those for and against, we have decided common sense dictates that putting artificial chemicals in the body is not natural. The body was not designed to function optimally, or be nourished, by them, and we choose not to. And are living a much healthier life for it.

This website and mercola.com are both garbage, because little reported here has any scientific validity. Check out Snopes.com or aspartame.net for the truth or ask yourself why no US state, no Western nation has or even has any plans to ban aspartame. Aspartame is perfeclty safe used as directed in healthy people!

All rat safety studies showing some harm from aspartame have been discovered to have been done incorrectly, starting with the first Searle work and extending to two recent Soffritti et al studies and the internet "My Aspartame Experiment.com" You simply cannot do any rat experiment using an untreated versus treated protocal for aspartame; it causes false positives that have been misunderstood for decades and explains all the problems reported above. This treatment causes the development of a prolonged and serious folate deficiency only in the treated animals and that causes numerous disease issues linked by aspartame critics to aspartame. The supposed physician critics clearly know nothing about folate or the consequences of this vitamin deficiency.

John E. Garst, Ph.D. (Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Toxicology; FYI, absolutely no connection to any aspartame industry or financial interests, but really angry at this bad science)

it seems that although western medicine is adept at fighting illness, there is still a great amount of information that is unknown about ourselves and holistic medicine can help where western medicine doesn’t have the answer.

go to ewg.org and search under thier Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database . they have a list of hundreds of products rated. search what you want, and they will rate on a scale of 0-10 then list other products that have fewer (or none) or more chemicals. i found it VERY eye opening.

Its great to know what to avoid, but what is safe to actually use on your skin? Can it be bought or is it something I can mix in my own kitchen?

Thanks for such a good, informative blog. I agree with everything you say. The other day I was in my local health food shop and picked up a jar of '100% pure' evening primrose oil hand cream. On reading the label, the first thing I saw was the dreaded word 'paraben'. It's so important to read the list of ingredients, not just the label or the hype. It's astonishing how lax the labelling can be yet still remain legal — 'organic' may mean that one tiny ingredient is organic and the other 99% is a chemical soup.
